Freedom, Equality, Justice and Dignity

the key words of the African Charter and the African Commission on Human Rights

International CURE (Citizens United for Rehabilitation of Errants) focuses on the reduction of crime, and the restoration to wholeness, and fullness of life for all, including those who have broken society's laws. This work is guided by the relevant statements of human rights  and standards that are documented by the United Nations, the Organization of American States, the African Charter, and seven African International Conferences.

The PAJART process (Prisons and Justice: Assessments, Recommendations, and Transformations) is used by International CURE, and reported in this e-book, in six stages:

  1. Development of a comprehensive Survey, guided by both experience and the  above relevant statements of human rights, and intended to illuminate both problems and progress in prisons and justice systems.

  2. Assessments, in each country, using that comprehensive Survey.

  3. Comparing these Country Assessments with relevant Human Rights documents.

  4. Recommendations, for each subpart of the Survey, in view of the Assessments, and building on the recommendations of the seven African International Conferences.

  5. Multi-Country-Analysis (MCAs), which focus, in turn, on each of five key issues in multiple countries, to “boil-down” PAJART data on the selected issues. Then, the CURE's 5-15 and CURE's 5-30 MCAs summarize it all.

  6. Transformative Action:  Leadership Programs and other Leadership Resources, drawn from worldwide prison and justice experience, that can help to fulfill those Recommendations.

For the details, you might want to dig deeper:

1. Go to the Survey, and pick topics that interests you.

2. Go to Country Assessments; pick a country; scroll down to your chosen topics.

3. Go to Human Rights Excerpts. Were the human rights observed in the topics of the country you picked?

4. Go to Recommendations for the related topics.

5. Go to Multi-Country-Analysis; pick one of the five key problems. Review the multiple country assessments, the related human rights, and the key recommendations. Formulate a plan for achieving some of these key objectives. Review the 15 recommendations in CURE's 5-15 and the 30 "Ways Forward" in CURE's 5-30.

6. Go to Leadership Resources.   What "Leadership Programs" and other resources really work for growth of incarcerated persons or system-transformation? What existing programs can fulfill some of the 30 "Ways Forward" ?
